How do I open the content for the Multimedia Companion and Full Course CDs?

The Multimedia Companion and Full Course CDs are no longer available and use outdated technology. We cannot ensure that these CDs will work on your computer and no longer offer technical support for these products.

Below are instructions to open the Multimedia Companion or Full Course CDs.  Again, we cannot guarantee that these processes will work for your computer.

  • Go to Computer or This PC. (If you have Windows 8 or 10, click on the yellow folder in the taskbar.)
  • Right-click over the drive labeled AEM_ and select Open or Open in New Window from the menu that comes down
  • Double-click on the CRS or MM folder
  • Inside this folder you will find a file titled index.html; right-click over that file and select Create Shortcut. It will ask you if you would like to place the shortcut on the desktop. Please say "Yes."
  • This will create a shortcut on the Desktop. Use this shortcut to go into the course. Be sure you have the disk inserted before clicking on the icon.

You also need to make sure you associate .mpg and .avi video files with Windows Media Player. Use the following steps to do this:

  • In the lower left corner of your screen, you should have a box where you can type a question. Please type “default programs.” If you don’t see that box, please click the Windows symbol in the lower left-had corner and simply start typing.
  • Look above for the option to “Set default app for file type” or something similar to that.
  • This will take you to a list of file extensions and the default apps that open them. Scroll down to .avi and make sure the default app, which is displayed to the right of it, is Windows Media Player; if it isn’t, click on the default media player, which is probably “Movies & TV,” and select Windows Media Player.
  • Scroll down to .mpg and verify that the default app to open .mpg files is Windows Media Player. If it isn’t, please change it to that.

Since we no longer have these CD's available, we would recommend that you copy the CD content to your hard drive. If you do that, though, the above shortcut would not work anymore, and you would need to create a shortcut.
