How do I create an observer account for my student's live class?

If you do not already have an observer account and would like to create one to monitor your student, you can follow the guided process below to get started.
Have an existing observer account and want to add one or more students? You can follow the guide below through Step 3 to retrieve your student's pairing code. Once you have your student's pairing code, follow this Canvas guide to add them to your existing observer account.
- Whenever you need to access Apologia Online Canvas, you should visit our login page. We highly recommend bookmarking this on your device and student's device for ease of access.
- Be sure that you are logged in to your student's account. Then click on the account menu shown on the upper left hand corner of this Canvas page, which we've depicted for you in the image below. Clicking this will open a menu, in which you should now click on "settings."
- On the settings page for your student account, you should find the "Pair with Observer" button on the right side of the screen. Click this and a pop up will display a short alphanumerical code. Copy this code. You will need it in the next step!
- Return to the login page for Apologia Online Canvas. You should no longer be logged in to your student account and should see the prompt to log in. Instead of logging in, you should click "Parent of a Canvas User?" in the upper right hand corner. Doing so will prompt you to sign up as a parent. You should enter your name, email, password, and the pairing code that you copied during step 3. Agree to the terms of use, acknowledge that you are not a robot, and click "Start Participating."
- Now check the inbox of the email that you entered in the "Your Email" field during Step 4. This email is automatically generated, so if you do not see it, please check your spam folder. The email will be asked to confirm your Apologia Online Canvas account. Once done, you can log in with your observer account through the website or on the Canvas mobile app to check in on the class and your students progress.
