Parents have the option to share a login with their student, but they may also create an "Observer" account. An "Observer" account gives parents the ability to view their students’ course content (grades, course modules, etc.) without sharing a login. This "Observer" account is linked to the parent's student(s) account via a pairing code. You can add multiple students to an "Observer" account if you have multiple students who you would like to track.

First, you will need to retrieve the student pairing code. You can do this by logging into the student account at https://apologia.instructure.com. From the student account, click "Account" on the Global Navigation menu, then click "Settings". This will bring you to the student's profile page. From there, click "Pair with Observer" on the right side of the page. Copy or write down the code that appears. You will need this when you are creating your "Observer" account.

After you have obtained your student(s) pairing code, you now need to create your "Observer" account. To start this process, log out of your student's profile or use a different internet ready device. Go to apologia.instructure.com. Click "Parent of a Canvas User?" in the upper right hand corner. That will take you to the account creation page where you need to enter your name, a valid email (separate from the one your student is registered with), password, and your student pairing code that you just retrieved. Click "Start Participating" to create the account and login!

If you would like to add another student, you can do so by logging into your Observer account. Click "Account" on the Global Navigation. Then click "Observing." This will bring you to a page that lets you enter another Student Pairing Code that was retrieved from the second student profile in the same way that we obtained the first code. Once you enter the second code, click the "+ Student" button to pair them to your account.
