While we have designed each level of Apologia elementary math to share some aspect of a design theme with a title from the Apologia’s science Young Explorer Series, each math and science course can be completed separately. None of the courses are dependent on the other. For example, Level 1 mathematics has an astronomy design theme, and icons in the book include astronauts and rockets. A few hands-on activities also have an astronomy theme, like creating a rocket number line to use in learning addition and subtraction. Apologia chose the design connections to help your student see the connections between abstract mathematical concepts and the real world. Other than a similar design theme, there is no direct connection between Apologia’s elementary science and math courses.
