Chemistry is a prerequisite for the Advanced Biology 2nd Edition course because many chemical reactions take place in the physiological processes of the human body. The course assumes that the student has a good grasp of chemistry, and therefore, the authors discuss chemical terms and concepts without much elaboration.
Specifically, students will need to have a basic understanding of atoms, ions and molecules and the ways in which they interact. They will also need to understand the processes of osmosis, diffusion, hydrolysis, oxidation, Dalton's Law of Partial Pressure, and the basics of the electromagnetic force. In addition, students should be able to read basic chemical formulas and chemical reactions.
That being said, it is not entirely impossible to succeed in the course without having taken Exploring Creation with Chemistry, 3rd Edition. It may, however, mean a lot of added work in looking up the concepts and meanings of the text that relate to chemistry.
